Guru Gembul - Problem Umat Islam

Coba Khotib (penceramah) kalau pas jum'atan2, kalau pas ceramah, kalau apa, ngebahasnya apa?

  • bab tentang kesabaran,
  • bab tentang khusyu'nya sholat
  • dsb.

  • tentang pencurian,
  • tentang pencurian,
  • tentang pengambilan hak orang lain dsb.
  • tentang (perbuatan) menyengsarakan rakyat
  • dan sebagainya

itu bejibun, banyak sekali. Dalil Al Qur'an, dalil hadits itu banyak sekali, bisa sampai ratusan.

Tetapi kenapa masih seperti itu?

Ya karena yang mereka lakukan itu adalah

  • melihatnya (melihat dalil),
  • menghafalnya,
  • menafsirkanya,
  • memperdebatkanya

Try listening to the Islamic Friday Sermons — what do the preachers usually talk about? They repeat the same topics:

  • The importance of patience,
  • The need for focus in prayer,
  • And so on.

And that's it — those same themes have been recycled for the past 1,500 years. There's rarely any effort to explore other aspects of Islamic teachings (islamic way) that are more relevant to today’s world.

As a result, corruption continues — sometimes even masked with religious labels. Think about it: in a Muslim-majority country, when corruption happens, it’s often on a massive scale. How does that make sense? How can a society that claims to follow Islamic values still be riddled with corruption?

Islam has a wealth of clear guidance —
  • On theft,
  • On seizing other people’s rights,
  • On causing harm to the public,
  • And much more.
There are countless verses in the Qur’an and numerous Hadiths —literally hundreds — on these issues.

So why does this keep happening?

Because people tend to:
Read the religious texts,
Memorize them,
Interpret them,
Debate them—
But not actually live by them. And that’s the real problem.

Take the example of Indonesia. There was a huge public debate that went on for over a year about the Anti-Pornography Bill. The media was completely absorbed in it. The arguments were heated and intense.

But after the bill was passed, what changed?
Nothing.
Those who wanted to watch porn kept watching it.
Those who wanted to make it kept making it.

The whole debate existed only in the formal space. Once the law was passed, life just went on as usual.

And that, in a nutshell, reflects the condition of many Muslims today.
